Artist Spotlight: MasterPiece

Under a decade ago finding a consistent poetry event in Dallas/Ft. Worth would require time and dedication. Things have changed since then. DFW is witnessing an extreme makeover that may sprout roots deep enough to create a permanent poetry scene. All thanks goes to a shooting star blazing her trail across multiple city’s skylines. The Ms. DFW Open Mic 2013 winner has seemingly commandeered every media outlet in existence on her path of conquest. Not only is she reestablishing a home for professional and aspiring poets alike, she is leaving impressive road marks along the way.

Her name is MasterPiece. It is a very fitting name as she displays mastery of many crafts. On the microphone she is the lyrically venomous, yet tantalizing 2013 National Poetry Awards nominee for Best Up and Coming Artist. Her awe inspiring performances, relentless work ethic, and determination have already won the titles of Best Female, Best Up and Coming Female, and Hardest Working Female at the North Texas Spoken Word Awards.

Her high caliper performances are crystallized and set in excellence with her award winning appearance and flawless image. Spoken Vizions Magazine named MasterPiece first place of their Top 3 Sexiest Dressed Poets. MasterPiece is also featured in the magazine’s Sistahs of Vizions 2014 Calendar.Stage presence is not a problem as MasterPiece doubles and triples as an actress and published model. Each second of her performance is the equivalent of viewing her appearances in Vibe Vixen and Essence magazine.

Her studio album, Mind of MasterPiece, is just as well-rounded as she is. Her penmanship doesn’t stop at writing and recording entire studio albums. MasterPiece has authored and published Mind of MasterPiece: A Book of Poetry for those who prefer more traditional forms of stimulation. The buck doesn’t stop there for this member of the 2013 Ft. Worth National Slam Team. MasterPiece offers the chance to experience her poetic skills in multiple live showcases. She frequently adds to her rapidly growing fan base as a performer in showcases such as Spotlight Sundays, The Love Jones Experience, and Grove Theory. MasterPiece is so impressive that she was invited on WFAA News 8 Daybreak for a live performance, and has also performed over the airwaves of other local news stations.

It did not take long for MasterPiece to holistically realize her potential. These days MasterPiece is not only the star of the show, she is the executive producer as well. To add onto that, she is the host her events and on-air in her Hold Your Applause Internet Radio Show. She packs houses and boasts sold-out shows as a premier promoter. She has honed her creativity and tech savvy to become the graphic designer behind the highly effective key visuals informing and leading fans to every show. As Event Director she is successfully approaching the one year anniversary of For Love of Words (F.L.O.W.) and has recently introduced We Are Worthy Women Wednesdays.

There is no wonder for each production’s success. Master Piece’s shows offers quality and value for participants, performers, and event goers. Artists that took the stage have gone on to obtain performance opportunities on nationally televised poetry shows such as Verses and Flow. Event goers can often participate and win prizes in raffles as well as shop with small vendors. One of the venders is MasterPiece herself. She displays her Entrepreneurial and designer prowess as she offers her own fragrance called Liberation.

MasterPiece’s consistent ability to pack clubs and sell out shows has not gone un-noticed. If her movement has not caught your attention yet, then you have some catching up to do! Her successes have gained features in both Southern Dallas Magazine and The Dallas Observer. Her draw of attention has supplied the momentum to help catapult MasterPiece into a national tour. She is fresh off an exhibition in Arizona, and has been blazing stages in Louisiana, Florida, New Orleans and Washington.

Just from looking at her list of achievements thus far one could be influenced to assume that the poet-slash-everything is on the tail side of an illustrious career. However, she is just heating up and has left no reason to not hitch a ride on her bandwagon of shooting success. All aboard!
