ASAP Battle of the Beats [Season Finale]

Last year the Dallas underground music scene saw incredible growth, signified by a number of events both new and reoccurring. One such event was the inaugural season of the ASAP Battle of the Beats circuit. A head to head producers tournament that puts some of the most ambitious Dallas beat makers into a track for track slug fest to be the last man standing! Since Its start in the winter of 2012 there have been 5 tournaments, the most recent being the season finale, featuring the top placers from all previous tournaments! Perhaps the most amazing thing about the ASAP Battle of the Beats is just how successful its contestants have become within this 1st year!

The inaugural season has already begun to produce award winning talent such as Ricky “$lickk Muzik” Offord, A Dallas native that has had a more than robust year. Since arriving in Los Angeles in June 2013, Slikk has either met, worked and partnered with names such as Peer Music, BMG Music Publishing,  BMI,  Motown Universal, Sevyn Streeter, Eric Benet, Ashton Merrigold,  Master P, Teairra Mari,  and Lina Loi. Ricky was also nominated for his work with Ariana Grande at the American Music Awards and won! Currently working with, TLC, trey songz & Trevor Jackson on Atlantic records, Mr. Offord is well on his way to becoming heavily industry acclimated, and busy. Since 2012 the ASAP Battle of the Beats has had 5 competitions the most recent of which being the Season Finale on December 27th 2013 in which Mr. “$lickk Muzik” flew down to be a guest judge!

Also on the judges panel were two other Dallas Icons, super producer and song writer Willie C. and legendary Dallas street artist Big Tuck. The 2013 season has had many highlights and many standout producer including name like “Sik WitIt”, “TY on the Track” and “GI”. All of the names are attached to high energy and ambitious individuals that have also made not worthy accomplishments this year including touring with the nationally acclaimed iStandard Producers showcase, some have even been rumored to be collaborating with major recording artist like T.I.

As more media attention shifts to the Dallas market in general, local competition like the ASAP Battle of the Beats will continue to grow and turn out even more note worthy talent. Since this particular tournament showed up, there have been other such showcases to hit the scene, indicative of just how much the market is expanding. From Denton to Deep Ellem and everywhere in between the Greater Dallas area is beaming with potential and in 2014 I suspect we will see many new city stars make their glowing emergence!
