Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki passed Elvin Hayes (27,313) for eighth place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with a 20-foot jumper in the third quarter during his team’s 102-98 win over visiting Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night.  Nowitzki finished with 14 points and now has 27,322 for his career.  Dirk is projected to pass Moses Malone this season as well who ranks seventh in all-time scoring with 27,409 points, and he joked with reporters saying he told Lakers guard Kobe Bryant he was going to catch him.  When asked to put his historic night into perspective, Nowitzki told Matt Thornton of the Dallas Entertainment Journal and other reports that, simply put, he feels fortunate.  The humble Mavericks leader also praised teammates Charlie Villanueva and newly acquired point guard Rajon Rondo.
