Dallas Sidekicks sign forward Freddy Moojen to their roster for the 2014-15 season.

The Dallas Sidekicks announced Friday the signing of forward Freddy Moojen to their roster for the 2014-15 season. Moojen will join the Sidekicks on October 25 as they open the season in the inaugural game of the Major Arena Soccer League at Allen Event Center.

“Freddy is an impressive player with a lot of experience and skill, and I’m excited to welcome him to Dallas,” Sidekicks Director of Soccer Operations Nick Stavrou said. “We have been focused this summer on improving the team and giving ourselves the best chance to be successful in this brand new league, and Freddy is definitely going to be an important piece of the puzzle.”

Born in Balneário Camboriú, Brazil, the 31-year-old has played professionally on both indoor and outdoor teams around the world. His outdoor experience includes time in the NASL with the Montreal Impact, the USL with the Minnesota Thunder and international stints with GKP Gorzów Wielkopolski in Poland, TTM Phichit F.C. in Thailand, Al-Seeb Club in Oman and FC L’Assomption in Québec. His indoor pedigree spans almost a decade, and fans of the former MISL will recognize Moojen from his time with the Wichita Wings in 2011-2013 and last season with the Baltimore Blast, where he accumulated 11 points in seven matches.

Moojen’s personal connection to Dallas comes via previous teammates and now fellow Sidekicks Shaun David and Ricardinho. David and Moojen competed together in the MISL with the New Jersey Ironmen in 2008, and the pair were joined by Ricardhino on the Omaha Vipers in 2010. He also has a familiar face in Sidekicks goalkeeper Sagu, whom Moojen has competed against for several years.

“I kept in touch with the players I knew in Dallas and they have told me good things about playing here,” Moojen said. “I followed the team since they came back two years ago and always thought they looked very organized and together, and I had a really good feeling when I started talking to (Dallas Sidekicks owner) Ronnie. I’m really excited for a new beginning in Dallas with a good team andgreat players.”

The Sidekicks open their 2014-15 season at home on Saturday, October 25 at the Allen Event Center in the inaugural match of the Major Arena Soccer League. Dallas will face the 2013 MISL champion Missouri Comets in a match that is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. Individual and season tickets for the 2014-15 season are now on sale via Ticketmaster or by calling 469-200-GOAL. For more information, visit www.dallassidekicks.net.
