As the temperatures start to heat up for the warmer months ahead, so does the talent in Dallas, Tx. If your one of those Hip Hop beat battle fanatics then these two fellas need no introduction to you. Representing the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and I might as well just say the State Of Texas in the 2014 SXSW first ever international beat battle is music producer Sikwitit and music producer B.Barber. These two have come a long way, each earning their stripes in the Hip-Hop music industry. Participating in local beat battles as well as national ones such as the iStandard producers showcase and getting crowned the king for the night has earned them spots to be able to now Judge those same battles they both found themselves participating in, in hopes of making a name for themselves.

With every good team comes a good coach. Being that it’s the first ever international beat battle you must assume that these participants will be lead by someone whose made their mark. Grammy award-winning producer S1 (Symbolyc One) will be the celebrity producer coach for the Texas team. S1 has worked with artists such as Beyonce, Kanye West, Erykah Badu and even the HOV himself Jay-Z. Competing against Texas will be Toronto, Drakes hometown if that helps. The Texas team will be made up of six other producers from Texas. However, it is Sikwitit and B.Barber that represents the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. With that being said you can only imagine the amount of pressure that rides on the shoulders of these two.

When I sat down with both of them it was apparent that both possessed a work ethic that not only matched each others, it drove the creative side of those listening. Beats playing in the background and seeing the movements that correlated with the sound of the music only brought out that mentality that being number one is all they can be. Their music speaks for itself. The opponents that they’ve both gone head to head with can surely vouch that these two have what it takes to win the title alongside their other teammates.

It was both B. Barber and Sikwitit that agreed that taking home the title would be something that Dallas in particular needs. Being in a city that for some reason gets over looked from time to time would now have a solid place in an industry that mimics Herbert Spencer’s theory of the survival of the fittest. With so much talent in one place whose to tell what other opportunities might arise for these two promising producers. Time will tell whether it will be Toronto or Texas that will come out on top, but the time is near. Thursday, March 13th at 7pm in Austin, TX is where it will all go down. If your able to attend SXSW please be sure to check out the first ever international beat battle Texas vs. Toronto hosted by Space City Beat Battle and The Beat Academy. The Dallas Entertainment Journal proudly speaks on behalf of all of North Texas when we wish Sikwitit and B.Barber and their other teammates the best of luck as they represent Texas in this historic competition. If you are lucky enough to be in Austin, the Battle will take place at Avenue on Congress. 408 Congress Ave. Austin, TX
