Lionsraw to host first major U.S. based charity event at Brookhaven Country Club.

Lionsraw, a global non-profit mobilizing soccer fans from around the world to support local community projects, and a charitable partner of FC Dallas, will host its first ever large scale, U.S.-based event from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.,  Friday, May 15 at BrookHaven Country Club, 3333 Golfing Green Dr., Farmers Branch. The event, a marathon 100 holes of golf, will raise funds for the Lionsraw summer legacy projects in Dallas, which aim to reach more than 500 Dallas-area children.

“It is hard to find a sports fan who is not passionate about their local team,” said Jon Burns, founder and CEO, Lionsraw. “The idea of Lionsraw came from that passion. If we can harness the millions of sports fans around the world to donate their time towards the communities they live in, imagine the possibilities. I am thrilled that Lionsraw is able to bring our unique take on making a difference to the Dallas community through this golf marathon event, we hope this will be the first of many across the US in the next few years.”

The golf marathon will feature more than 30 local golfers who have pledged their time and donations towards helping improve their community and will include a celebration dinner for golfers and local community supporters.

“EMC is proud to sponsor Lionsraw as they support community events around the world,” said Jeremy Burton, president, Products & Marketing, EMC Corporation. “Focusing time and resources towards enhancing local communities cultivates an environment where youth are able to thrive, both at school and at home.  We look forward to raising awareness for the Dallas community and are excited to get on the green.”

This summer Lionsraw will support the local Dallas community by funding three volunteer events over a 24-day period during July and August. The volunteer events will harness local soccer fans to provide soccer schools for area youth and refurbish facilities in an effort to continue to support team activities for children. The funds raised during the golf marathon will go directly to supporting these projects.

The Dallas golf marathon marks the first major, U.S.-based event for the global organization, which plans to replicate the fundraiser in cities around the country.

“It is very exciting to see EMC’s global sponsorship of Lionsraw take root here in Dallas,” said Michael Hasbany, vice president, Enterprise Sales, EMC Corporation. “This type of event contributes so much towards our local community, and as headline sponsor, we are thrilled to bring the community together for such an important cause.”

About Lionsraw:

Lionsraw was founded in England in 2006. In the last nine years, they have developed projects in 20 locations across seven countries. They have received huge media coverage for their work in establishing facilities and programs for some of the world’s most ‘in need’ children. They use the power of football to mobilize fans into community transformation projects in local and global programs. They currently work with more than 2000 children every week, and have worked with more than 5000 children during major tournaments like the World Cup in Brazil and South Africa. CNN recognized their work in 2014 by naming the founder Jon Burns as a CNN hero of the year.
